Aug 05, 2013 I have the Asrock H77M motherboard and even without the DSDT file it works wonderfully, although it is highly recommended to get USB3 working, and to get the App Store working properly. It is by far the easiest build I ever did. I built this PC with OS X in mind My hardware: Asrock H77M Motherboard (DSDT can be found on this website) Intel Core. Back to menu ↑ For Mac. We all know how secretive Apple is about its hardware specifications and the Mac is no exception to this rule. While there is no way to directly access the stats and specs (such as the motherboard model number) on the Mac, there is a workaround which. [edit]Preface

The Intel DG33TL is a popular motherboard for installing OSX86, due to its (former) availability in the Intel Employee Purchase Program and relative ease of OSX installation. It has shown to be a rock-solid board that is dependable and durable.

It is reported working with:

  • OSX Leopard
  • OSX Snow Leopard
  • OSX Lion
  • OSX Mountain Lion
  • OSX Mavericks

A custom DSDT for this board can be found here.

[edit]Components

[edit]Processors

The DG33TL supports all LGA775 processors (including Xeon, P4 and Celeron processors), however to be on the safe side it is recommended that you stick with the CoreDuo, Core2Duo and Core2Quad processors for maximum compatibility and stability in OSX.

[edit]Onboard Audio

The DG33TL has a SigmaTel STAC9271D Audio Chipset. Audio will not work out of the box with current distributions of OSX.

Snow Leopard kext for onboard soundcard can be found here, Lion/Mountain Lion users can use the VoodooHDA 0.2.7.3 kext distributed in MultiBeast.

The above kexts have been tested working, with full functionality with audio out, mic, line in and mute.

[edit]Onboard LAN

The DG33TL has an Intel 82566DC LAN Controller. Full functionality can be achieved using hnak's port of the AppleIntelE1000e.kext. The kext is included in the 5.1.2 release of MultiBeast, or can be downloaded here.

[edit]Onboard Video

The DG33TL has an Intel GMA 3100 Graphics Controller. There have been absolutely NO reports of this working with any version of OSX, and it is highly recommended that you buy this board accepting the fact that you will need an additional PCIe x16 video card.

[edit]IDE Controller

Be advised: IDE is very tricky to get working with OSX regardless of which board you have. During installation, users have reported failures (kernel panics etc.) when attempting to use IDE drives, in particular IDE Optical Drives. It is recommended that you use both a SATA hard-drive and a SATA optical drive for your hackintosh.

[edit]SATA Controller

Do NOT use the red eSATA port on your motherboard for either your hard-drive or optical drive. Traditionally people are advised to keep their HDD in SATA0 and their optical drive in SATA1 during installation, however this isn't really necessary with this board.

General note specific to this board: when installing Windows after having installed OSX, you must unplug your OSX hard-drive during Windows install, otherwise the Windows installer will report an error. You may plug it back in after the Windows installation has completed.

[edit]Hard Drives

It is recommended that you format your hard disk as a Master Boot Record for Leopard & GUID for Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion. This can be done in Disk Utility (included in the OSX installer/OSX DVD), under the partition tab. Choose the partition you are going to install the system on and click options.

[edit]Recommended BIOS settings

  • Hard-drive mode to 'AHCI' - it is recommended that you do this before installing Windows, which does not like the switch.
  • HPET set to 'on' or 'enabled'.

Note: If you intend to dual boot your computer (and your Windows OS is already installed), the IDE setting works in Kalaway 10.5.2 and MBR. That said, AHCI is always preferable to avoid any eventual complications.

[edit]OSX Compatibility

Board has been reported to be compatible with the following OSX versions/methods:

Current

  • Snow Leopard (retail) via USB Install Method and DSDT
  • Lion (retail) via USB Install Method and DSDT
  • Mountain Lion (retail) via USB Install Method and DSDT

Legacy:

  • Kalyway 10.5.1
  • Kalyway 10.5.2
  • iDeneb 10.5.6
  • iAtkos5i 10.5.5
  • iAtkosV7

Note: while compatible with the above versions, it is important to note that certain functionalities (sleep etc.) may not work completely.

Which Mac operating systems are compatible?

The version of macOS that came with your Mac is the earliest version compatible with that Mac. To find out whether your Mac is compatible with a later version of macOS, check the system requirements:

If your Mac won't start up from a compatible version of macOS, it might require a specific build of that version. To get the correct build, reinstall macOS or upgrade to a later version of macOS.
