Hello, just found this page, and I used so far a Xbox 360 controller, wired, so I already knew the driver from GitHub. If I may ask your help, I bought a new Xbox One S controller after I've read. Dec 04, 2016 Mac OS X doesn’t support Xbox 360 (XInput) Controllers, while it does support Direct Input Gamepad & Joysticks PS4, PS2, PS3 very few games actually support them. So, here’s an easy tutorial which will let you configure any gamepad or Joystick to play literally any game on your Mac OS X (MacBook Pro / iMac / Mac Mini) by emulating keypress. Oct 11, 2018 XBox 360 Controller driver for MacOSX (including Mojave) After setting up Mojave on my MacBook I realized I’ve had to install the XBox 360 Controller driver again. Somehow that was really hard to find among many outdated sources, so I’m putting this. Xbox 360 wireless controller is not working on macOS Sierra Just bought this game and requested the refund, as the Xbox controller is not working on my Mac with this game.
Jul 02, 2019 The (somewhat) bad news is that, unlike the plug-and-play and wireless nature of the PS4 controller, the Xbox Controller requires some third-party drivers and configuration to work in OS X, and will only work while connected via a USB cable. There are several unofficial projects that aim to provide Xbox One controller support for the Mac, but the one we recommend is the Xone-OSX (now.
About
This software enables the Xbox USB gamepad, DVD remote, and other Xbox devices on Mac OS X. It installs a HID (Human Interface Device) kernel extension and works at a low-level so any game that supports joysticks can use it. Games that do not support joysticks can use Xbox devices through additional software such as GamePad Companion.
You can use the Xbox HID Driver as long as you want, it is now freeware and totally unlimited. The full source code is accessible via CVS.
The source code to the kernel extension component is included, and is subject to the Apple Public Source License (APSL). The driver can be extended to support additional Xbox devices, including wheels, IR receivers, headsets, and memory units. The full source code for other components is licensed under the GPL.
It is now possible to use the Xbox controller in Halo! Halo version 1.5 supports gamepads!
I have created an Application Enhancer module (aka haxie) that taps into Halo Mac Edition to provide limited joystick support, I call it 'Game Pad Hack'. Update: this is no longer needed in version 1.5 of Halo. I probably will not be continuing development of this haxie but the full source code is available for anyone who would like to take it further. Click here to download Game Pad Hack (requires the Xbox HID Driver).

Getting Help
I'm maintaining an FAQ for common problems and help getting various games to work with the Xbox controller.
The download contains a detailed Readme which might help you.
Visit the sourceforge.net forum here.
There is also a forum at Inside Mac Games where you can search for more info.
Getting a USB Adapter
I used to recommend Lik-Sang for this as they donated some hardware to test on. It seems they are out of business now. I would recommend you search google. It is also possible to build your own adapter with some basic soldering skills and an old printer cable. Again, search google, lots of good howtos on this can be found.
Related Software
This software may help you get your controller working with games that do not support HID input.ControllerMate is a programmable utility that can be used to emulate a keyboard or mouse with your Xbox controller.
Gamepad Companion is a similiar utility for mouse/keyboard emulation.
HID Wizard is a free utility to map HID joysticks onto the keyboard/mouse.
Joystick and Gamepad Tester provides you with some low-level information on your gamepad.
There is another project supporing the Xbox 360 controller here, it also supports force feedback. It is not clear if this also supports the original Xbox controllers.
Donations
Donations will be used to purchase additional Xbox devices and gadgets, and will motivate future updates and enhancements (calibration w/dead zones, rapid-fire buttons, invertable axes, 3rd-party controllers..).

Gaming on a Mac is not what Apple is historically known for. However, with Apple delving into the fledgling virtual and augmented reality space, some traditional game interfaces and not so traditional interfaces (think HTC wands or Valve's knuckle controllers) now need to be supported on macOS to reap the VR/AR benefits to their fullest.
To ready you for some amazing VR pilot games such as Eve: Valkyrie that utilize a traditional game Xbox game controller, we're here to show you how to connect one to your Mac! In the past this method only applied to the Xbox 360 controller, but the latest version of the software you'll be using also now supports the Xbox One controller.
How to download and install the drivers
We're assuming that you already own a wired Xbox controller, but if you're needing to buy, a standard controller is about $50. You'll need to connect it to your Mac using a microUSB cable which, sadly, isn't included. If you buy a third-party wired controller you won't have to worry about this.
Next, follow these steps.
- Launch Safari.
- Navigate to https://github.com/360/Controller/360Controller/releases.
Download the latest release of the 360Controller driver. As of this writing, the latest release is 0.16.5.
- Go to your Downloads folder in Finder.
- Double-click the 360Controllerinstall_*.dmg file.
Double-click the Install360Controller.pkg that pops up in Finder.
- Click Continue.
Again, click Continue.
- Select to Agree the license agreement.
- Click Install.
Agree to allow a restart of the computer by clicking Continue Installation.
- Click Restart.
You can optionally have the downloaded file Moved to Trash.
- Upon restarting the computer start System Preferences from the dock or the  menu.
- Click on Xbox 360 Controllers.
How to connect your Xbox 360 controller
Once you've installed the drivers, you'll now logically see that there are No devices found, since we have yet to physically connect the game controller to the Mac.
- Plug in your controller to your Mac. If you have a current model MacBook or MacBook Pro, you'll need a USB-C to USB-A adapter.
- Click OK when the System Extension Blocked warning message pops up.
- Go into System Preferences via the dock or  menu.
Click Security & Privacy.
- Under the General tab click the Lock at the bottom left.
Enter your password and click Unlock.
- Click Allow.
Your Xbox wired controller should now be connected!
Final thoughts
I am super stoked about developers climbing aboard the VR/AR hype train. As a mere consumer of VR, I can only hope for more and more creative minds to get on board. If you're a VR/AR developer, or even better yet, a macOS VR/AR developer, what other ways can Apple help promote virtual reality on their platform? Let us know in the comments!
