Symantec For Mac Os Sierra
- Mac OS X 64-bit mode is supported. PowerPC processors are not supported as of version 12.1.x. As of version 12.1.2, case-sensitive formatted volumes are supported. Remove legacy Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) for Mac installations before installing Symantec Endpoint Protection. See Remove Symantec software for Mac using RemoveSymantecMacFiles.
- Jan 18, 2017 Installing kexts is not as simple as removing them. It can be done manually, but using a kext installation utility like KextBeast is much easier. KextBeast was created for use on Hackintoshes, but it will work just as well on a vanilla Mac. Download KextBeast. If you don’t have a free account with tonymacx86.com yet, you’ll need to.

Mac mini introduced in mid-2010 or later iMac introduced in late 2009 or later Mac Pro introduced in mid-2010 or later. To find your Mac model, memory, storage space and macOS version, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu. If your Mac isn’t compatible with macOS Sierra, the installer will let you know. Long-term Mac users can guess that macOS High Sierra (10.13) is a refinement of macOS Sierra (10.12) because of the naming structure. Just as Mac OS X 'Snow Leopard' (10.6) was a refinement of Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) and OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) was a refinement of OS X Lion (10.7), rather than offering radical new features, macOS High Sierra.
Norton AntiVirus 10 explicitly supports MacOS 10.4. I am using it on a number of 10.4.2 installs and am happy with it.
As to the rest of the Norton products: why in the world would you be using them. They have caused more problems then they have solved since MacOS 9. There is a reason they were discontinued.
ClamAV and ClamAVX are better products and free. They don't mess around with kernel extensions and they never break your system as Symantec products do with every update of OS X.
Best way to remove it's dregg is to never install it :-)
It's worked wonders for me.
Those poor Mac users must have missed the memo. Norton Utilities had its glory days back during OS 7/8/9. Although OS X generally needs a lot less babysitting.

When I switched to Macintosh a year ago, I was sure that I needed Norton System Works.. boy was that a mistake. Suddenly my fast Macintosh Powerbook turned into an unstable slug. Whew. Now you can't pay me enough money to touch a Symantec box with a 10 foot pool
I have always hated Norton since the days of OS 9 when it managed to CAUSE datal loss and hard drive crashes for me. I recently was helping a PeeCee friend figure out why they couldn't connect to their wireless network no matter what. Finally turned off all Symantec/Norton crap and BAM, everything works great. I advised a full uninstall and a switch to AVG. I hate Norton/Symantec. One of the worst computer products I've ever seen.

I am responsible for this hint. I must not have been logged in at the time of submission.
The Norton Utilities were great through Mac OS 9 for all of the computers I administered. I used them on dozens of computers and they kept the computers working with no downtime.
Now Norton Utilities is discontinued, and Mac OS X appears to be much more responsible regarding its filesystem.
I guess if I need a suite to replace what Norton Utilities did, I think I would look into Drive Genius:
http://www.prosofteng.com/products/drive_genius_info.php
Drive Genius just got a very favorable review and recommendation over on macfixit:
http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20050710234551683
And no, Disk Warrior does not do everything that Norton Utilities did. It may be the best at what it does (directory repair and optimization), but it is still a one-trick pony, and not an Utilities suite.
I too am unable to download the file. Is there an alternate URL?
Or - to second the request - please can you post the file?
My problems are:
Ever since I updated to 10.3.9
I get upon startup following error messages:
Unable to load Norton Privacy Control extension
Norton Personal Firewall error (Kernel extension not launched)
Norton AntiVirus Error.
Updating to 10.4.2 changed nothing here.
At this stage I would simply like to uninstall, but the uninstaller provided by Norton with the software returns an error and does not do anything.
Thanks for any help or information.
Richard
Alt Link
Scroll 2/3 down the page and the file download link is there. I was able to re-download it from that link, so hopefully, you should too.
sorry - I do not know what I am doing wrong
when I try to download I get the error message:
550 /misc/consumer/mac/NortonUninstall.sit: Not a directory
please help
Richard
Are you running firewall software? Try turning it off temporarily.
What program are you using to download the file? Try Transmit:
http://www.panic.com/transmit/
and then paste this link into transmit:
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/consumer/mac/NortonUninstall.sit
Good luck.
I guess my (Norton) firewall posed the problem - after turning it off I was able to download the file.
And, the uninstall worked!
Thank you for your help!
Richard
I can't access the file :'-( I just get a 'Cannot coonect to server' error every single time..
Can someone please attach this to this hint somehow, I need it for more than one system. Or, could someone just post the contents of the .command file? It's just a script isn't it?

Totally agree here. Norton AV is worthless crap that's always the source of headaches. All Symantec products are.
ClamAV if you need virus software in OS X. Only way to go.
While I completely agree that Norton products should be kept off your Macs (these days), I recently had a need for NAV when a friend contracted a Word virus (from a Windows user, natch). Unfortunately, ClamXav, as truly wonderful as it is, only detects viruses; it does not repair them as NAV does. Fortunately I have an old, OS9 version of NAV, and an OS9-bootable Mac I could run it on. But does anyone know of a good anti-virus program for OSX that will REPAIR infected files?
I tried Virex as an alternative, but it too has system extensions, automated schedulers, and tons of other CPU hogging components that are part of the required install, like NAV 10. I'm back to NAV 10 for now, but will watch this thread closely. How excited was I to find that NAV 10, like NAV 9, forces it's menu item on every new user created?!?! I love apps that hog the CPU and force their presence on your desktop/menu bar/system preference pane!
Sadly, this is a required install in my office because we send and receive tons of scripts. Many mail agents won't accept attachments with viruses, and lots of scripts are sent to us with macro viruses on them that HAVE TO be removed in order to forward them on. We have to fix problems we never created or were affected by.
The last time a 'Norton' product was actually worth installing was when Peter Norton was still doing the coding. IMNSHO, of course.
couldn't link to the page, but here's the direct link to the uninstaller:ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/consumer/mac/NortonUninstall.sit
